Cereal!

That picture pretty much sums up Jack's opinion of cereal--so far he's not a big fan! Hopefully after a few days of trying he'll get used to it. Here are a couple videos of Andy and me last night feeding Jack for the first time.

Sitting up

Jack's sitting ability has really improved over the last week. As long as he bears some of his weight on his arms, he can sit by himself for over a minute. He can also sit without resting on his arms, but he doesn't last as long and is a bit more wobbly. He seems to really enjoy sitting--I guess it gives him a whole new viewpoint on his surroundings. Here are some pictures I took just now of him sitting. 

We hope everyone has a good Labor Day holiday! There should be a pretty good blog post this weekend, since we're introducing solid foods, or at least infant cereal, for the first time! It will also be the start of college football season and Jack will see the Georgia Bulldogs for the first time (oh yes, and also those other teams Michigan and Ohio State).

Like father, like son

Andy had fun imitating Jack's positions the other night. Jack has also made a discovery in the past couple weeks--his feet. So far he hasn't pulled them up as far as his mouth, but with his teething I'm sure we'll have some toe chewing going on before too long. I couldn't get Jack to pull his feet up very far for these pictures, but he's at least grabbing them. Of course he wouldn't do it for me when he was dressed, so I had to take the pictures when he was naked. At least he posed so he kept his dignity intact.

Jack is starting to laugh more and more, but he's still unpredictable as to what makes him laugh. What works one day will not work the next. It's also hard to figure out what he'll think is funny. Last night I was wearing him in his Snugglie carrier while I was doing some prep work for dinner. He started laughing, and I couldn't figure out why. He wasn't laughing at the TV or any toys nearby. Then I started wondering if it was something I was doing, and sure enough, he apparently thinks cutting chicken is hilarious. I don't know if he liked the way the kitchen shears looked, or the sound they made when cutting, but every time I would cut a piece of chicken he would laugh--really hard too! I wound up cutting the chicken into extremely small pieces so he would keep laughing. Maybe tonight I'll cut some vegetables and really crack him up.

Busy weekend

Here's a picture from Saturday night when Aunt Lisa stopped by the house. We saw a lot of the Nold family this weekend! Grandma and Grandpa Nold also came over Saturday, and then Jack spent most of the day with them on Sunday. They babysat so Andy and I could take advantage of an offer to go out on Lake Michigan. One of Andy's coworkers has a boat, and he invited us to come out Sunday so we could get a great view of the Air and Water show (Chicago has a big Air&Water show every summer). We had a great time--the weather was beautiful, and the show was incredible. Thanks again to Grandma and Grandpa for watching Jack! Below are a couple short videos I took of the Blue Angels. They're pretty loud, so you might want to adjust the volume on your computers before playing. In the second video, you can't see the planes as well, but it's entertaining for another reason. Everyone was so occupied watching the planes in formation that we forgot about the solo plane flying around. 

New blog!

Welcome to Jack's new blog! I hope the new website will work out for everyone--please let me know if you have any problems.

Here's a video of Jack when we put him into his booster seat for the first time the other day. I thought his reaction was pretty funny. Apparently we need to get him some drums.

Jack is getting stronger everyday and is doing pretty well with lifting his head up while on his tummy. He gets tired after a while, though, since his head is still so big and heavy in comparison with the rest of his body. Last night I looked over and saw him taking a rest on dad's lap.
